By releasing a collection of written correspondence between Acharya Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore, Bose Institute today kicked off its centenary year celebrations.
Bose had established the multi-disciplinary institute on fundamental research on this day in 1917.
Institute's director Siddhartha Roy said beginning from their 100th foundation day celebrations today they have decided to invite a large number of scientists from India and abroad during the year 2016-17.
At the function a compilation of written correspondence between Bose and Tagore was released.
"In the last 15-20 years higher educational institutes in India have faced many crisis situations. The future is difficult," Professor P Balaraman of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, said at the function.
Calling upon the scientific community to ensure that science gets public support he said research needs lot of support from outside as it is very complicated.
"By and large we have been getting only public support," he said and commented public perception should be better.
