Actor Divyendu Sharma of 'Chashme Baddoor' fame feels that commercial success is important for actors as it gives producers confidence to invest in them.
'Chashme Baddoor', directed by David Dhawan, was the remake of 1981 hit romcom of the same name, wherein three bachelors vie to get attention of a sales girl Deepti Naval. The new movie was released on April 5.
While actors Farooq Shaikh, Rakesh Bedi and Jai Ravi Baswani played the roles of bachelors in the original film, Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar, south star Siddharth, Divyendu Sharma and actress Taapsee Pannu were the lead in the new version.
"Getting commercial success is important. The figures and numbers are important. This kind of recognition helps a lot as people start taking you seriously. It gives producers the confidence to cast an actor," Divyendu told PTI.
Divyendu, who made his Bollywood debut in 2011 film 'Pyar Ka Punchnama', played the role of poet Omi in 'Chashme Baddoor'.
The 30-year-old said he was looking forward to 'Zaalim Dilli' being directed by debutant Japinder Kaur Baweja, which is his first film as a hero.
"I loved the script and my character, and agreed to do the film. There is a sense of responsibility when the film is on your shoulder. But I am up for this challenge," he said.
Divyendu is playing the role of a serious IAS aspirant who believes in principles but at the same time a fun-loving person in 'Zaalim Dilli'.
Shot in Delhi, the comic drama features Divyendu, Ira Dubey, Miss India Earth (2012) Prachi Mishra and Jackie Shroff.
