The incident took place yesterday at Rangampeta mandal in G Dontamuru village, 50 kms from here, Peddapuram Inspector K Sridhar Kumar told PTI.
The boy has been identified as Bhargav Kalyan, son of an agricultural labourer, police said.
He, along with another four-year-old boy Ajay Ganesh, were rushed to a private hospital here last evening after they began vomiting. Both had consumed egg and rice from the Anganwadi, police said.
When their condition deteriorated, the duo was referred to Kakinada Government General Hospital. While Kalyan died on his way to the hospital, the condition of Ganesh is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, State Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa has ordered a probe into the case.
