Boy dies of swine flu in WB, 11 new cases detected

An eight-year-old boy died of swine flu today while 11 fresh cases of H1N1 infection were detected in the last 24 hours in West Bengal, a senior Health department official said.
The death of the boy took the toll in the state to three while the total number of people infected by it went up to 58, Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Moloy Dey told PTI.
"The boy, who was admitted in a critical condition seven days back at state-owned BC Roy Hospital in Beliaghata, died early this morning. He stopped responding to treatment and was put on ventilation," Dey said.

The boy was suffering from high fever for a few weeks and was brought to BC Roy Hospital only when the private hospital failed to treat him, he said.
One of the two children, among the 11 new cases of H1F1-infection, was "critical" and was admitted to the BC Roy Hospital today, the health official said.
"Most of these fresh cases are reported from the city while two or three are from the North 24 Parganas district. One child has been put on ventilation and is quite critical. Doctors are keeping a watch on the situation," he said.
"There is no scarcity of medicine for swine flu in the state and we are prepared to face any situation. There is nothing to panic about," he said.

The state government has created a ward at BC Roy Hospital specially meant for swine flu patients.
