Boy drowns in water-filled pit

A nine-year-old boy drowned after falling into a pit filled with water near Old Gandhi Hospital at Secunderabad here today, police said.
Narasimha accidentally fell into the pit while playing and drowned, they said.
"He was taken out of the pit after some locals noticed him and was immediately taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead," said Market police station sub-inspector B Ravikiran.
According to some reports, the pit was dug by Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) as part of ongoing works. However, HMR officials have refuted the charge.
A case under section 174 of CrPC has been registered in connection with the incident.
