A 24-year old 'brain dead' man provided new lease of life to five persons by donating his organs for the needy patients.
Aswin of Mettupalayam in the district met with a road accident while he was on a two wheeler on August 2 following which he was admitted to K G Hospital here.
However, he did not respond to the treatment and was declared 'brain dead' after scans revealed significant dysfunction of the brain, hospital chairman G Bhakthavatsalam said.
Multi-organ harvesting was performed at the hospital after getting consent from the Aswin's parents and one kidney each was given to K G Hospital and PSG Hospital, liver to PSG hospital and two eyes to Sankara Eye Hospital, all in Coimbatore, today, he said.
