Brain dead man gives new lease of life to nine

Nine people got a new lease of life after the family of a 43-year-old man, declared brain dead after an accident, donated his organs today.
N Selvaraj, hailing from Tirupur district, had suffered severe injuries after his motor cycle collided with a car near Palladam on June 12.
After first aid in Sulur branch of Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), he was shifted to the KMCH main here yesterday, an hospital release said today.
As he did not respond well to the treatment, Selvaraj was declared brain dead and his family members came forward to donate his organs.
A team of doctors today harvested liver, kidney, heart, lung, eyes, skin and bone, the release said.
While the liver and a kidney were transplanted at KMCH, the heart and lungs were sent to a hospital in Chennai, another kidney to SPT Hospital, eyes to Aravind Eye hospital and skin and bone to Ganga Hospital all in Coimbatore, it said.
