Unidentified persons today broke into a branch of Mahesh Bank in A S Rao Nagar here and made away with over 14 kg gold kept in the strongroom.
The culprits opened the strongroom using duplicate keys and took away mortgaged gold last night. The break-in came to light this morning.
CCTV camera link inside was cut making police suspect that an insider might be involved.
"As per preliminary investigation, it is total negligence on the part of the bank authorities who even did not post a guard outside and there were no CCTV cameras outside," Deputy Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal told PTI.
"We are verifying the records of gold loans and ascertaining the exact quantity that was stolen," the DCP added.
