Two brothers were beaten up by policemen after they assaulted an officer at a city police station where they came to report a complaint of mobile theft.
Adil Naser and Aquib Naser, the brothers, came to the Ekbalpore Police Station accompanied by sub-inspector Pijush Sarkar yesterday to lodge a formal complaint of theft of their cell phone from their house, Deputy Police Commissioner (Port) Imran Wahab said.
"While they were being assisted by the SI to lodge a formal complaint, they started arguing with the police officer stating that their father was an advocate and that they did not need any guidance but only the FIR number," Wahab said.
The brother duo then allegedly started assaulting the officer by pulling his uniform collar and slapping and fisting him inside the police station, Wahab said.
Two separate cases were recorded at the Ekbalpore police station, Wahab said, adding that the first case was under section 380 IPC for the stolen mobile phone and the second one was under section 353/506/114 IPC for assaulting the on-duty police officer and threatening him.
The police has also lodged a complaint regarding use of fist and blows against sub-inspector Pijush Sarkar.
Describing the incident as "most unlikely", state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said a departmental inquiry had been ordered in the matter.
