BSES today issued an advisory for Delhiites aimed at preventing the occurrence of electricity- related incidents in the city during the rainy season.
In a statement today, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and BSES Yamuna Power Limited have listed out a range of precautions to be adopted by the people during the monsoon.
People should not touch electrical appliances with wet hands and stay away from electrical installations like poles, sub-stations, transformers and streetlights during rains, the release said as it highlighted the precautions to be taken regarding electrical safety.
The discoms have also started helpline numbers for reporting fallen cables, poles or exposed wiring -- 399 99 707 (for South and West Delhi) and 399 99 808 for (East and Central Delhi).
"Keep a 'tester' at home. If a switch is wet, do not touch it. First use a 'tester' to check if there is an electricity leakage. If need be, call your electrician," it added.
Delhiites have also been asked to report, resist and convince people about not drawing electricity illegally by hooking from mainlines or electrical roadside equipment as it can be a serious safety hazard, especially during the monsoon.
"BSES discoms are fully geared for the monsoons... To minimise the incidence of moisture-related breakdowns, BSES discoms are also taking active measures to minimise the accumulation of moisture in the grids and panels," the statement said.
