In view of the approaching summer when power demand is likely to rise to an all-time high of 6,100 MW, BSES today said it has firmed up arrangements to source adequate electricity to meet any shortfall and has also "strengthened" the distribution network.
The company said "despite financial constraints" it has made capital expenditure of over Rs 350 crore during the year to strengthen the infrastructure of the two discoms that it operates in the city - BRPL (Rajdhani) and BYPL (Yamuna).
"BRPL and BYPL will be getting 150 MW each from Jammu and Kashmir on round-the-clock (RTC) basis between May to September through banking arrangements. BYPL will additionally be getting 50 MW from Meghalaya.
"In case of unforeseen contingencies because of low generation and outages of power plants, the discoms will purchase short-term power from the exchange," a company spokesperson said.
BSES in a statement said that Delhi's peak power demand during the summers of 2016 is expected to touch 6100 MW which was 5846 MW during the summer of 2015. The all-time peak power demand was recorded at 5925 MW in 2014.
The company has also appealed to agencies such as DMRC, DJB and PWD to inform the discoms before undertaking any digging work to help prevent damage to electricity cables and disruption in power supply.
"During the year, BSES discoms added network capacity by over 450 MVA. They are also working in tandem with Delhi Transco Ltd to ensure that the entire transmission distribution system is fully geared to meet the summer load," the spokesperson added.
