BSES unearth power theft

BSES has unearthened power theft of over 87 MW in the past five months and registered 1000 FIR/complaints in this regard.
"BSES' crack-down against-power theft, which began in April 2014, has set a new record. In the last 5 months alone, over 1000 mass raids have been undertaken and power theft of a whopping over 87,000 KW or 87 MW unearthed," said an official of BSES.
The official also said that this is equivalent to the sanctioned load of 43,500 households consuming 2 KW of load.
"Along with this, over 20,000 cases have been booked across South, West, East and Central Delhi. A total of nearly 1000 FIR's / complaints have also been filed at various Police Stations," the official said.
According to discoms, in south and west Delhi, the exercise has seen power theft of over 52,000 KW being unearthed and over 13,500 cases booked.
"The highest quantum of power theft load has been unearthed in the Tagore Garden division (5,000 KW, 1234 cases). This is followed by Vikaspuri (4806 KW, 1039 cases), Palam (4433 KW, 924 cases), Najafgagh (3469 KW, 1330 cases) and Nangloi (3342 KW, 904 cases) divisions. The highest number of cases has been booked in the Najafgarh division," he added
Highest quantum of power theft in South Delhi has been unearthed in the Sarita Vihar division (3171 KW, 1056 cases). This is followed by the Saket division (3043 KW, 768 cases). In the Vasant Kunj division, power-theft load of 3510 KW has been unearthed and 579 cases booked.
Official added that with over 1000 mass raids already undertaken in the last 5 months, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have launched one-of their biggest crack-downs on power-theft in recent times.
"For increased effectiveness of the drive and to unearth power theft of various types, the raids are being carried out literally 24 x 7. As part of this campaign, over 150 identified areas have been targeted across South, West East and Central Delhi," official also added.
Since July 2002, BSES discoms have booked over 2.5 lakh cases and unearthed a power theft load of over 18 lakh KW.
