BSF, Border Guard Bangladesh launch 'Crime-free Zone' project

The BSF and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today jointly launched the 'Crime-free Zone' project in the Indo-Bangla border area of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The aim of the project is to make the area free from illegal, antisocial and criminal activities by integrating the efforts of BSF and BGB, in assistance with the district administration, NGOs and border population of both countries.
The pilot project was launched by BSF Director General K K Sharma and his BGB counterpart Maj Gen Abul Hosain along a stretch of 8.3 km.
The BSF border outposts Gunarmath and Kalyani and BGB border outposts Putkhali and Daulatpur have been declared as a crime-free zone.

"The project Crime-free Zone was discussed during the DG level talks held at New Delhi last year and a decision was taken to launch a joint declaration," Sharma told reporters.
Hosain said more such projects will be launched at various other border outposts along the border in the near future.
