Satveer Nagar, the joint candidate of the BSP-SP-RLD from the Gautam Buddh Nagar Lok Sabha seat, was booked on Tuesday for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, officials said.
A non-cognisable offence was registered at the Khurja Nagar police station after he was allegedly found pasting posters and flags in support of his candidature on roadside and walls, a district administration official said.
"The act was a violation of the model code of conduct and has been captured in pictures by election officials," the official said.
Nagar (37) has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 171-C (causing undue influence), the official said.
Khurja, which is part of Bulandshahr district, falls in Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency along with Sikandrabad, Noida, Jewar and Dadri assembly regions.
Gautam Budhh Nagar, with over 22 lakh voters, goes to polls on April 11 during the first leg of the seven-phased elections.
