According to the Budget document, the Labour ministry's Plan expenditure for the current fiscal has been pegged at Rs 2,496 crore which is about 45 per cent higher compared to the revised estimates for 2013-14 at 1,723.16 crore.
The government also alloted Rs 50 crore for modernisation of employment exchanges into career centres, a move which would provide counselling to students coming to these centres.
The General Budget said that the emphasis will be laid on employment and training of labour, social security for unorganised sector workers, improving working conditions and safety of child and women labour.
The provisions have also been made for schemes for Central Board for Workers Education, V V Giri National Labour Institute, Welfare of SC/ST and other backward classes, SCSP, TSP and North Eastern areas and Sikkim.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Vishnu Deo Sai had earlier told that the government has decided to convert employment exchanges into career centres in collaboration with the state governments for providing counselling services to students and job-seekers along with other employment-related assistance.
