 "Budget 2016: Marginal cut in DAE funds, Rs 3,000 cr for nuclear power")
There was a marginal cut in 2016-17 budget allocation for the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) as compared to last year as Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced on Monday Rs 3,000 crore to boost nuclear power generation.
According to the Demand for Grants, the DAE has been allocated Rs 5,482.48 crore for 2016-17 as compared to Rs 5,483.54 crore in 2015-16, which is around Rs 1.06 crore less than the previous year.
Jaitley said government is drawing up a comprehensive plan, spanning next 15 to 20 years, to augment the investment in atomic power generation.
"Budgetary allocation up to 3,000 crore per annum, together with public sector investments, will be leveraged to facilitate the required investment for this purpose," Jaitley said in his budget speech.
The PSUs under the DAE are constructing several atomic power reactors.
