The 15-day long budget session of Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly began today with speaker Nabam Rebia leading the house in paying tributes to former legislators of the state who passed away this year.
Making obituary reference in respect to Tashi Khandu, former MLA from Tawang constituency in undivided Kameng district who died on March 23 this year after prolonged illness, Rebia termed him as a great first generation leader.
Khandu, born in January 15, 1926 at Tippi village was elected to the first legislative assembly in 1978.
He left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter.
While remembering Tarik Rava, who died on May 1 last due to prolonged illness, the speaker termed his death as an irreparable loss to the state.
Rava born in 1943 at Nacho in Upper Subansiri district was elected to the second legislative assembly during 1995.
He left behind two wives, five sons and four daughters.
Taking part in the discussion, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki termed Khandu as a 'gem' of person who worked relentlessly for the cause of the poorer section of the society.
While remembering his association with Rava, Tuki termed him as an active social worker who was instrumental in uplifting the backward class of the society.
"In his demise, we have lost a first generation leader and the vacuum created by his demise is hard to fill," the chief minister said.
Home minister Tanga Byaling, senior BJP member Japu Deru and Congress MLA Jambey Tashi also participated in the obituary reference before the House observed two-minute silence in respect of the departed souls.
