The victim alleged that she had an altercation with the bus conductor over bus fare following which the conductor tried to outrage her modesty, the police said.
The other passengers became agitated and caught hold of the conductor and beat him up and later on handed him over to the police, sources said.
The incident happened near Mani Square Mall at Manicktala.
