Bus ride organised in Delhi in memory of Dec 16 gangrape

A bus ride was today organised in the national capital in memory of the 2012 December 16 bus gangrape and murder incident which shook the nation.
A group of organisations including NGOs and professionals dedicated to improving women's safety, travelled in a bus from Dwarka to Central Delhi.
Dr Ranjana Kumari, Director, Centre for Social Research, who is leading the campaign, has called for the formal commitment and engagement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regard to women's safety.
"We request the Prime Minister to officially voice his concern and outline the blueprint that is formulated to address the deteriorating situation of women's safety in India. We urge him to share the ideas that the government has outlined to run a safety campaign for women," she said.

Kumari along with other activists like Dr N Hamsa of Women Power Connect and Shabnam Hashmi, founder of ANHAD, submitted a petition to the Prime Minister appealing for implementation of recommendations of Justice Verma Committee report and for transparent accounting and utilisation of the Nirbhaya fund.
"Gender sensitisation progammes should be introduced in schools at primary levels for a better understanding and also, special training programmes should be run in colleges across the nation. This knowledge building process can lead to a positive attitudinal and behavioural change.
"Also, we have recommended that cases related to gender based violence should be dealt on priority with extreme care and in a time-bound manner," Kumari said.

The civil society movement also demonstrated their complete solidarity with victim's parents and the families of sexual assault victims who are striving tirelessly for justice.
