Bypoll dates for two Assembly seats in Manipur announced

Bypolls to Thongju and Thangmeiband Assembly constituencies in Manipur will be held on November 21, officials said.
According to a notification issued by the state chief electoral officer O Nabakishore Singh, the last date for filing nominations is November 4 next and scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on November 5, besides the last date of withdrawal of candidates will be November 7.
Counting of votes will be on November 24 and the election process shall be completed by November 26, the notification said, the notification stated.
The model code of conduct came into force from October 21 last in two districts: Imphal East and Imphal West and the model cade of conduct shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the state government concerned and Union government in respect of the above districts, the notification said.

The bye-election for Thongju and Thangmeiband Assembly constituencies was necessitated following the disqualification of two Trinamool Congress MLAs from the Manipur Assembly under the Anti-Defection Law.
The disqualified MLAs were Kh Joykisan Singh of Thangmeiband Assembly seat and Th Biswajit Singh of Thongju Assembly Constituency, both have joined BJP.
