Chief Minister Raman Singh today paid a surprise visit to Basing village in the Naxal-affected Abujhmad area of Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district under the 'Lok Suraaj Abhiyan', a campaign for good governance launched by his government.
"Singh held a chaupal (village meet) under a tree and gave a patient hearing to grievances of villagers of Basing," a government spokesperson said.
The CM sanctioned development works worth nearly Rs 3 crore, which included construction of roads, community halls, wells, electricity and others.
He also instructed the officials to ensure electricity supply to 53 villages of Abujhmad, located around 400 km away from the state capital Raipur, as early as possible.
During the meet, villagers requested the CM for aid for construction of 'Devgudi' (village temple housing the Goddess) in villages, following which Singh sanctioned of 25 lakh for construction of Devgudi in 50 villages of Abujhmad, the official said.
The CM also sanctioned Rs 56 lakh for construction of Transit Hostel for doctors and nurses and for the construction of primary health centre building in Kohkameta.
During his visit, Singh was accompanied by Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand and Principal Secretary of Chief Minister Aman Kumar Singh and other officials.
The CM later also took part in Lok Suraaj campaign in Bijapur and Dantewada districts of Bastar region.
Earlier, while speaking to media, the CM said that Lok Suraj campaign will help the state to understand the ground realities and modify policies as per the needs of the masses.
"Farmers have ample time during the summer season, which is an ideal period to understand their needs and viewpoint," he added.
Singh said he will have detailed talks about the drinking water facilities, health, education, developmental works and issuance of caste and birth certificates with the concerned citizens during the drive.
"A blueprint will be prepared after holding talks with the villagers for the next three years. Targets will be fixed for each and every district," he said.
It will expedite the implementation of various developmental programmes and make the district administration more accountable and active.
Lok Suraj campaign was launched on 27 April and will end on 24 May. Under this initiative, the state ministers, people's representatives, top officers and employees will tour the villages to understand the pulse of the masses and resolve their grievances.
