CAC demands HC bench in western Odisha

A delegation of lawyers today asked the Odisha government to send a team to Delhi to talk to the Centre for setting up of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in the western region of the state.

The demand was made by a 15-member delegation of the Central Action Committee (CAC) of lawyers from western Odisha when they met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the secretariat here.

The delegation included Sambalpur MLA Raseswari Panigrahi and members of the bar association. They said establishment of a bench of high court in Western region is a long standing demands.

"Though the chief minister assured us that he would write another letter to the Centre supporting establishment of a permanent bench of the high court in western region, we have demanded that a delegation of the state government should visit Delhi and talk to the Centre," convener of the CAC, Ashok Das told reporters.

Das said the MPs from the state should also make concerted effort to ensure that a bill on establishment on permanent bench in western region be passed in Parliament this monsoon session.
