Executive officer of the temple K Bharathiraja said the 90-feet tall 300 tonne car, which he claimed was the biggest in the country, had been renovated at a cost of more than Rs two crore. Its trial run was held in November last, he said.
The previous festival was held in 2010.
Meanwhile, in Tirunelveli, the 10 day car festival of Sri Nellaiappar temple began today with hoisting of the temple flag.
Deities of the temple, sri Nellaiappar and Gandhi Mathi amman would be taken around the streets in different vahanams (chariot) during the festival, temple sources said.
