A girl was killed when a car mowed down 9 people in Seemapuri area of Shahdara on Holi, police said today.
Following the incident, locals in the area managed to catch three out of the five occupants of the car while the rest managed to flee, they added.
The locals allegedly started vandalising the car and in the chaos, the three persons who had been caught by them also managed to escape from the spot.
Police said that Sarita Devi, along with her husband, sister-in-law and four children had come to her aunt Urmila's house to celebrate Holi, police said.
Sarita's brother's three-and-a-half year old daughter Anshika had also accompanied her to Urmila's house.
When the group was standing outside Urmila's house, she came out to greet them.
While they were talking, an overspeeding car came and hit everyone, apart from Sarita's husband who got saved.
All the injured persons were rushed to the hospital where Anshika was declared brought dead while the others are undergoing treatment.
The accused driver, Saif Ali alias Chintu (22), was arrested yesterday, police said.
While locals alleged that Saif and his four other friends who were covered in colours were drunk, the accused claimed that his friends were tipsy but he was 'sober'.
