Police today registered a case against members of a union of Yellow-and-Black taxi operators for allegedly threatening staff members of GoaMiles, an app-based cab service of Goa Tourism Development Corporation.
GoaMiles, the first mobile app-based cab service in Goa, was launched by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday.
Cases were registered against Sanjay Naik, president of the United Taximen Association (UTA), a union of taxi operators at Dabolim International Airport, and four others, said inspector Nolasco Rapos of Dabolim police station.
The UTA members allegedly threatened the staff at GoaMiles' counter outside the airport earlier today, he said.
Police invoked IPC sections 504 (breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against them, Rapos said. Nobody has been arrested yet.
Sanjay Naik claimed that the police case was an attempt to "suppress" the taxi drivers' agitation against "illegal" counter of GoaMiles. "We will continue our protest," he said.
