Case registered against gang of cheats in Jammu

The Crime Branch in Jammu region has registered a case against a gang of fraudsters who used to dupe people of their money by declaring them as lucky-draw winners.
A complaint was filed by one Yash Paul who alleged that he received a phone call from a mobile number in which the caller declared him as the BSNL's lucky draw winner and informed him that he had won an award of Rs 15,80,000.
The complainant was asked to deposit Rs 15,000 as custom charges, SSP Crime Branch, Jammu Mubassir Latifi said, adding, the caller again informed Paul that he has to deposit some more money as taxes and transaction fee.
Paul deposited Rs 1,04,000 in different accounts provided by caller, he said.
During the course of enquiry, it was found that some unknown callers provided different accounts from Madhya Pradesh to the complainant who ended up depositing Rs 1,04,000.
A case under various sections was registered in Crime Branch, Jammu and further investigation has been taken up, he said.
Meanwhile, the SSP said, a large number of people in Jammu region are being duped of their hard-earned money by the cheats and online fraudsters.
Number of complaints of online fraud are being received by the crime branch from different parts of Jammu, where innocent people are being duped of their money by misleading them.
