The Odisha Crime Branch today arrested a police inspector who was accused of sexually abusing a lady police officer for 13 long years.
"We have arrested police inspector Ajit Kumar Swain who was absconding for last two months and a NBW was pending against in his name," Crime Branch ADG B K Sharma told reporters here.
Sharma said the accused cop was arrested from the state capital and he would be produced in the court tomorrow.
The First Class Judicial Magistrate (JMFC) court, Soro on June 20 had issued a Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against the Swain after the investigating officer of the Crime Branch police submitted the case diary in the court .
The CB had also earlier on June 10 moved the JMFC court, Soro seeking declaration of Swain as an 'absconder' and issue of the NBW against him.
A single bench of Odisha High Court Justice S C Parija on June 23 had asked the Crime Branch to submit a status report in the case after the woman police inspector urged the court to intervene in the matter.
The lady police officer in her petition in the High Court had named the principal secretary Home, DG Police, DG (Crime Branch), IIC, Crime Branch and Jagatsinghpur DCRB (district crime record bureau) inspector Ajit Kumar Swain as respondents.
The lady officer had alleged that she was sexually exploited over the last 13 years by the Swain, who also subjected her to both mental and physical torture.
She also alleged that the higher authorities in the department did not take any action against the accused police inspector.
The officer said that she had joined the police service in the year 2000 and was posted as a sub-inspector in Keonjhar district on June 16, 2001.
On August 10, 2001, inspector Swain laid a trap and raped her after inviting her to his official quarters, she alleged in the petition. She also accused Swain of videotaping the entire act through a hidden camera planted inside the room.
She also alleged that Swain had agreed to marry her, but later did not keep his words.
Instead, he allegedly blackmailed her by showing her a CD of the rape act and continued to exploit her sexually, she had alleged.
