CBI has arrested a General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra in a bribery case involving Rs two lakh allegedly for clearing bills of contractors.
CBI sources said Subhash Kamble, General Manager, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) and a middleman, Tanveer, were arrested late last night in connection with the case.
"A case was registered under sections 7, 12 of PC Act and 120-B of IPC against a GM of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) and one private person. It was alleged that the GM, BSNL was demanding three per cent cut in the bills relating to contractors," CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said.
The middleman was allegedly helping in depositing the bribe money in a third party account to evade any suspicion from the anti-corruption agencies, he said.
Gaur said the GM allegedly demanded Rs two lakh and the private person subsequently accepted the bribe in the account of third party from the complainant.
"The GM and private person have been arrested from Ratnagiri and Goa, respectively. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused persons in Ratnagiri, Sangli (both in Maharashtra) and Goa which revealed immovable and movable property documents, locker key, several ATM cards and gold," he said.
