CBI arrests DP Inspector, Govt official in graft case

CBI today arrested an Inspector of Delhi Police and a Government official, who allegedly conned people posing as an IAS officer, in a case related to bribery of Rs three lakh.
Kehar Singh, Inspector (Investigation), Police Station, Janakpuri and Ashutosh Singh, Deputy GM of the Handicrafts and Handloom Export Corporation of India Ltd, Ministry of Textile were arrested in an alleged bribery case of Rs three lakh, the sources said.
It is alleged that Janakpuri police was probing a complaint against Ashutosh Singh alleging that he had duped the complainant of Rs one crore which he had taken from him for releasing of pending arrears/wages from FCI.
CBI alleged that Ashutosh was in touch with Kehar seeking relief in the matter. The Police Inspector had allegedly demanded a bribe to settle the matter.
"CBI laid a trap and the Inspector (Investigation) of Delhi Police was caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 3,00,000 from the Deputy GM. The Deputy GM was also arrested," CBI spokesperson said here today.
During the searches CBI found number of Ashutosh Singh's visiting and I-cards mentioning him as Officer on Special Duty or Personal Secretary to Union Ministers.
The agency also found cash of over Rs 40 lakh and number of properties in Noida and Mumbai.
"Searches were conducted at seven places including Delhi, Noida and Mumbai at the office and residential premises of the accused persons. Cash of Rs 40.5 lakh (approx); documents including six immovable properties comprising of four flats in Mumbai; one flat at Noida and one bungalow in Mumbai," the spokesperson said.
She said identity cards/Visiting cards in the designation of Joint Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Lok Sabha Secretariat, OSD to MoS (Home Affairs), OSD to Chief Minister (Government of Uttarakhand) and Secretary (P&A), Prasar Bharti, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have been recovered from the residence of said Deputy GM.
"During investigation, it has also come to light that he had earlier worked as OSD/ Additional PS to few then MOS including Labour, Home, Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs," she said.
