The CBI court here today dismissed a plea of former chief medical officer (CMO) of Azamgarh, an accused in the NRHM scam, for the release of his passport, which it had impounded earlier.
Special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari dismissed K M Agarwal's plea wherein he claimed he needed to accompany his wife to the US to see their pregnant daughter-in-law.
Public prosecutor Anurag Modi said the CBI had charge sheeted Agarwal for purchasing medicine by submitting fake quotations and releasing tenders in the connivance with medicine suppliers Hirday Nath Singh and Abhay Shukla, causing a loss of Rs 5 lakh to the exchequer.
