CBI raids residence & office of a varsity professor

CBI today conducted raids at the the Sagar-based residence of a university professor and found assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, an official said.
Besides the residence, the central agency also carried out raids at the office of Jinendra Kumar Jain, professor in department of commerce in Dr Harisingh Gour University at Sagar and two places in Bhopal, including the residence of his son Kaustubh Jain, the official added.
"During the raid at the residence of Jinendra Kumar, the sleuths recovered cash of Rs 22,000, 122 gram gold brick, one car and seven LIC policies," he said.
Besides, several documents relating to wealth he has acquired were also unearthed.
"As per the documents recovered from his residence, Jain owns a shop at Minal Residency, a shop at Western Plaza, Chuna Bhatti, a duplex house at Paras Parishar, Chuna Bhatti in Bhopal and a house at 117, Manorama Colony at Sagar," the official added.
CBI also seized a key of his bank locker.

Meanwhile, officials said altogether 44 persons were
arrested and 83 cases were lodged against persons indulging in illegal liquor trade across the state today.
The raids were conducted statewide on the directive of Secretary (Excise department), Avinash Kumar.
Large quantity of illicit liquor as well as foreign liquor were seized during the raids conducted against producers and traders involved in the trade, according to an official release here.
Kumar said altogether 83 cases have been registered and 44 persons arrested across the state during the raids.
Eight persons managed to escape while 13 among the 44 arrested persons have been forwarded to jail.
About Rs 1.63 lakh have been recovered as penalty from them, he added.
