Fair trade regulator CCI will in the next few weeks pass a final order over alleged unfair business practices by realty major Jaypee Greens with respect to its housing projects in Delhi-NCR region, its chief said today.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has been probing Jaypee Greens, accused of abusing its market dominant position by imposing unreasonable conditions on its buyers.
The case relates to a project involving construction and sale of villas in Greater Noida area of the National Capital Region (NCR).
"The Commission will soon come out with the order. I don't think it will take more than a couple of weeks," CCI Chairman Ashok Chawla told reporters here.
He was speaking on the sidelines of CII annual conference on competition law and practice.
Earlier, CCI in its prima facie findings had ruled that the conduct of Jaypee amounts to abuse of dominant position as it was imposing "unfair, onerous, one-sided" conditions on the buyers in its real-estate projects.
On anti-competitive practices in e-commerce business, Chawla said while 1-2 cases of predatory pricing have been alleged, unless "dominance is established in the retail sector or even e-commerce sector the competition law would not automatically apply".
Further, the CCI chief said investigation on airfares in terms of whether "there is a cartel or not is being done by the Director General and we still haven't got the report...We are awaiting that".
On capping airfares, Chawla, a former Finance Secretary, said the same should be determined by market forces.
