Seeking to promote the centuries-old heritage and vibrant culture of Delhi, the AAP government has decided to build a central library in the city.
According to the government, the library will house rich literature on all the historical and cultural aspects of Delhi's past, from ancient to moghul to modern.
"We have decided to build the city's first 'Central Culture Library' to promote culture and heritage of the capital. This library will have rich literature on cultural and historical aspects of the city," Minister of Art and Culture Jitendra Singh Tomar said.
He said that the Art and Culture Department has started looking for land for this purpose.
"After getting the land, the department will soon start working on the project...By this library, people will get to know about the city's rich past," the minister said.
Delhi, with its multi-chequered history has a few old libraries, which include Hardinge Library (Hardayal Municipal Public Library), Delhi Public Library, Municipal Corporation of Delhi library at the historic Town Hall, Central Secretariat Library, besides libraries at the National Archives and the Archaeological Survey of India, among others.
"Several dynasties of rulers over thousand of years have left behind monuments, forts and other architectural marvels that dot the national capital. In view of this, the 'Central Culture Library' will provide knowledge about historical and cultural aspects of historical past to the city's residents," an official said.
