The PMO has communicated to the state government about sanction of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, Lyngdoh informed the Assembly.
Altogether 64 persons were also injured in the accident when the truck carrying church goers rammed into a concrete railing in Nongspung village of West Khasi Hills district.
The PMO also sanctioned Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured persons, Lyngdoh said.
The driver of the truck was booked for negligence and rash driving and would be arrested after his released from the hospital, the Home Minister said.
