Vivek Dubey, a 1981-batch IPS officer appointed as central police observer for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, would reach the city on Sunday, an election official said.

He would look into the deployment of central and state forces during the elections, said Sanjay Basu, Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal.

Dubey replaced former DG of BSF R K Sharma as the central police observer, following objections from the ruling Trinamool Congress and the CPI(M) on grounds of neutrality.

Basu added that so far, 5.81 lakh litres of illicit liquor and unaccounted cash worth Rs 12.03 crore have been seized.

The first and second phases of the Lok Sabha polls in the state are scheduled on April 11 and April 18, respectively.
