Centre won't delay setting up separate HC for Telangana: Gowda

Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said the Centre would move quickly to establish a separate High Court for Telangana.
"The Centre is certainly committed to set up a High Court to the state of Telangana without any delay if we get proper infrastructure for that. It is for the state government to give infrastructure and basic facilities for establishing the High Court," he said here.
At present, the Hyderabad High Court covers the jurisdiction of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The AP High Court will continue for three years here, said Gowda, who was here to attend a party program in support of a candidate in Legislative Council elections. He said Telangana High Court would come up at another place in the city.

Once he gets the proposal, the Minister said he would immediately write to the Governor and the Chief Justice of High Court and see that the matter is taken up in the Cabinet and its approval obtained.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, passed by the Parliament last year has a provision for a separate High Court for Telangana.

Gowda said the Centre is bound by the Act.
"The Centre is going to support the development of Telangana in all areas, and establishment of High Court for Telangana is the commitment by our government and certainly we will work on it," he said.

Telangana advocates have been holding protests and boycotting courts for the past several days demanding bifurcation of the AP High Court for creation of a separate one for the newly-carved state.
