CESC Q4 Net down 5 pc to Rs 243 crore

Power utility CESC Limited today reported a decline of 5 per cent in its standalone net profit at Rs 243 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2014.
The company had registered a net profit of Rs 256 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
Net sales were also down to Rs 1,229 crore during the quarter under review against Rs 1,492 crore clocked in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
The company in a statement said net profit for the year 2013-14 stood at Rs 652 crore against Rs 618 crore in the previous year.
The company said work on the 2x300 MW Haldia project was progressing in full swing and commencement of power flow to the city was expected soon. Commissioning of both units were to be achieved by this financial year.
The first unit of 2x300 MW Chandrapura plant had commenced and the second would get commissioned soon, the statement added.
