Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today inaugurated the state-of-the-art new building of the Andhra Pradesh Police that will house its headquarters in the state capital Amaravati.
The Rs 40 crore predominantly glass structure with ground and four floors has been built in ten months on a six-acre site on the AP Special Police 6th battalion premises at Mangalagiri.
Nestled between hills, the 1.10 lakh sq ft building overlooks the National Highway 16 and is equipped with modern communication facilities and three conference halls.
Following the state bifurcation in June 2014, the Director General of Police moved to Vijayawada and started functioning from a temporary building last year. Some senior IPS officers also moved to Vijayawada but due to insufficient accommodation some wings of the state police still remained in Hyderabad.
Now that the new headquarters building has been completed, the entire AP police machinery will relocate fully to Amaravati.
Deputy Chief Minister (Home) N China Rajappa, Civil Supplies Minister P P RAO, DGP (in charge) N Sambasiva Rao, Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang, Principal Secretary (Home) A R Anuradha, Additional Directors General A B Venkateswara Rao (Intelligence), Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao (CID), Police Housing Corporation Managing Director K V Rajendranath Reddy and other senior officials attended the function.
