Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today hit out at V S Achuthanandan, saying people will "intervene" to stop the veteran CPI(M)leader from levelling baseless allegations against him and his ministerial colleagues.
Talking to reporters after filing his nomination as Congress candidate from Puthuppally, Chandy said "no case is pending against me in any courts in the country."
"It has been mentioned in the affidavit submitted along with nomination paper before the Block Development Officer at Pallikathodu," he said.
A day after he filed a defamation case in a local court against Achuthanandan for levelling "baseless allegations" against him, Chandy said he was not saying Achuthanandan's speech should be controlled.
"All I am saying is that the Leader of Opposition should stop spreading baseless allegations. Otherwise the people will intervene to stop it," the Chief Minister said.
93-year-old Achuthanandan, the CPI(M)-LDF candidate from Malampuzha, had alleged that there were 136 cases in various courts against Chandy and some of his ministerial colleagues.
In his petition filed before the court, Chandy had said this statement was a "fabricated story" and "unverified allegation, baseless, concocted and defamatory."
He has also sought an apology from Achuthanandan for levelling 'blatant and false' charges against him and his cabinet colleagues during campaigning.
