A 22-year-old chartered accountancy student ended his life by hanging himself at his residence east Delhi's Shakarpur area today, police said.
The deceased Vishwajit Saha, a native of West Bengal, left a purported suicide note in which he cited his slow and poor progress in studies for taking the extreme step.
He lived alone at a rented flat at C-Block in Guru Nanakpura at Shakarpur.
The suicide came to light at around 11 am when his friends went to his house to meet him.
When Saha did not open the door, they peeped into the flat and found his body hanging from a ceiling fan, said a police officer.
Police broke the door open and the body was sent for post mortem.
"He has written that he was depressed as he was not doing well academically. He was unable to take the load of the studies," said a police officer.
According to the officer, Saha also mentioned that his classmates were doing better than him which had left him depressed.
Saha also stated that no one should be blamed or harassed for his extreme step.
His parents have been informed and they are on their way to the national capital, said the officer adding further probe is on.
