CHC official arrested for taking bribe

A block accounts manager was arrested by vigilance sleuths in Odisha's Nayagarh district for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from a health worker, a vigilance release said.

Pradeep Kumar Acharya, block accounts manager of the community health centre at Madhyakhanda, was caught while accepting Rs 10,000 from Sanjib Kumar Panda, a health worker yesterday.

Acharya had allegedly asked Panda to make false bills on payments to volunteers to collect blood samples and supply of mosquito nets in the Chadheyapalli sub-centre area. As Panda did not act as Acharya wanted, he did not accept the bills and the bribe was demanded for their clearance.

Panda complained to the vigilance department who laid a trap and Acharya was caught red handed in his office room at Madhyakhanda.

Acharya's residential house at Nayagarh was searched, it said.
