Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today lauded the relief and rescue efforts being undertaken by the AIADMK government and the Centre as he took stock of the situation in flood-affected areas of the state.
The Governor also thanked President Pranab Mukherjee for his kind message and words of solace to the people of the state, a Raj Bhavan release today said.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing a sum of Rs 1,000 crore as immediate relief to the state to carry out relief work in the affected districts.
The release said Rosaiah was briefed by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa about the flood situation and the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken by her government.
He was informed that 3,548 revenue villages had been affected with heavy destruction and damage to dwelling units.
He was also informed by the CM that over 92,000 hectares of crops and roads to the length of 14,410 km, besides electrical installations had been damaged, the release said.
Jayalalithaa apprised him about the relief work being coordinated by her ministers and senior IAS officers.
"The Governor commended the initiatives taken by the TN government and all those who are associated in carrying out relief and rescue operations. He expressed his sympathy for the thousands of people who have been left marooned and stranded in the floods," it said.
