The government in its Mid-Year Economic Analysis for 2015-16 fiscal said, "In a meeting held on July 21, 2015, representative of government of Chhattisgarh has informed that due to surplus power in the state, the government is not keen on setting up the UMPP at present."
The mid-year analysis was tabled in Parliament today.
The Power Ministry has tentatively identified five UMPPs, to bid out in the ongoing fiscal.
The five UMPPs includes Cheyyur UMPP in Tamil Nadu, Bhedabahal UMPP in Odisha and Surguja UMPP in Chhattisgah.
It further said that bidding process for Bhedabahal UMPP and Cheyyur UMPP would be initiated after revision of Standard Bidding Documents( SBDs) which is likely shortly.
Bidding out three UMPPs namely-Cheyyur UMPP, Bhedabahal, Odisha and "Bihar UMPP in this financial year would attract an investment of approx Rs 90,000 crore.
