Lochan Kumar Nirvan, posted as Sub-Divisional Officer (in-charge), Rural Engineering Service at Fingehswar, was caught while accepting the bribe from a civil contractor for clearing his payments, an ACB official told PTI.
The contractor had constructed high school buildings worth Rs 54 lakh at villages Sendar and Fingeshwar, he said.
The Department had cleared most of his bills but his last payment of Rs 9 lakh was pending, he said.
When he contacted Nirvan for his pending dues, he sought a bribe of Rs 15,000 for forwarding his payment-related files to authorities concerned. The contractor agreed and at the same time lodged a complaint with the anti-graft agency.
The sub-engineer was placed under arrest and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, he added.
