A child died of the Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in a government hospital Bihar's Muzaffarpur district taking the toll due to the disease to two.

Last week, a girl, identified as Sapna, had died due to similar reasons in the same hospital, he said.
Another 13 children from various places in Muzaffapur and neighbouring districts were undergoing treatment for AES in the SKMCH, Shahi said.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate (DM) Anupam Kumar had directed the SKMCH authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment to the patients suffering from the and asked the local authorities to ensure medical facilities in the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) for treatment of such patients.
Kumar further directed the 'mukhiyas' of the gram panchayats to arrange for treatment of the AES patients at the nearby PHCs and take such patients to private paedriaticians if required.
The district magistrate has asked the civil surgeon of the Sadar Hospital to monitor treatment of the AES patients in the hospitals and private clinics of the child specialists to reduce mortality due to outbreak of the disease.
He has also asked the civil authorities to carry out DDT spray and fogging in the AES-affected areas on regular basis to eliminate mosquitoes which transmit diseases causing high fever among various related symptoms among the children.
Over 100 children had died due to the AES in Muzaffarpur district last year alone.
