"Sunil Mehra (12), a resident of Bihar, died today due to electrocution, when he was cleaning utensils at a restaurant in Khatodara area in the city," government labour officer Vinod Vaidya said.
The incident came in light today when a watchman of the restaurant found the boy unconscious with some burns on his body. The watchman found that the boy came in contact with electric current, Vaidya said.
Sunil was taken to the Surat city civil hospital, where he was declared dead. The boy was working as a child labourer along with his uncle who brought him to the restaurant here, he added.
Based on the labour commissioner's complaint, the Surat city police registered an FIR and initiated a probe.
