Child marriages are illegal and also a social crime, SBM state president Pt Suresh Mishra said at Mahasabha's executive meeting held here last night.
An appeal was being propagated up to village level so that minors' marriages could be contained, he added.
Meanwhile, the state government has already asked the district collectors and SPs to prevent child marriages.
Notably, child marriages are rampant in parts of the state which mostly takes place on 'Akha Teej', popularly known as 'Akshaya Tritiya'.
