China asks Indonesia to investigate rape case

A Chinese woman has accused two security officers at Jakarta's international airport of allegedly raping her, prompting China to ask Indonesia today to probe the incident.
The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia today strongly asked Indonesian authorities to investigate the rape case immediately following local media reports that a Chinese woman was raped by two security officers in Jakarta's international airport two days ago, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Chinese Embassy's consular section in Jakarta said the embassy is deeply shocked by the case and seriously concerned.
The victim chose not to stay in Indonesia despite being requested to assist authority's investigation and flew back to China after reporting the case to police, the Embassy said.

The Indonesian authorities have responded positively on its concern and have named two suspects.
The Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has made a public apology on the case and agreed to cooperate fully with the police investigation, it said.

The Chinese Embassy is highly concerned on this case and has lodged solemn representations with the Indonesia foreign ministry, Indonesian police and airport management.
The embassy has asked the Indonesian authority to fully investigate the case and punish the perpetrators. Besides, it has also requested Indonesia to intensify protective measures for Chinese citizens in Indonesia, the report said.
The Chinese mission, meanwhile, said it will closely follow up the case and take all necessary measures to protect Chinese citizens' safety and legal rights in Indonesia.
