A villager ran into a meeting of local Communist Party officials in eastern China today and detonated explosives strapped to his body, killing himself and one other person, a state-run news agency reported.
Four people were injured in the suicide bombing at a meeting of a village party committee in Anhui province, the China News Service said.
The report cited a local resident as saying the villager who carried out the attack had repeatedly sought government welfare but had not obtained it.
The government of Anqing, a county that oversees the village, said on its website that authorities were investigating.
Throughout China, people with grievances or who are involved in feuds have blown up buses, stabbed officials and attacked schools. Homemade bombs are often the weapon of choice in such cases because firearms are tightly controlled and difficult to obtain.
In November, a man set off a series of small explosions that killed one person and injured eight others outside the provincial party headquarters in the northern city of Taiyuan.
