The accident occurred when Wang Li Zhu (60), part of a 30-member tourist group from China, was crossing the river from Mayapur to reach Nabadwip's Baralghat last night.

The boat carrying the tourists jolted when it dashed against the jetty and the woman, who was on the edge of the vessel, lost her balance and fell into the water, they said.

As passengers of the boat raised an alarm, locals dived into the river but failed to locate her. Her body was found about an hour later.
